The Hua Moa is a delicious creamy-tasting banana and plantain with unusually large, picturesque fruit. It has a rich Polynesian background and was very important to the peoples of those islands.
After being brought to Florida, the Hua Moa became a staple in the kitchens of many Latinos in the Miami area until farm production declined due to diseases and storms. It can be sustainably grown both in Hawaii and in South Florida, but much needs to be done to help preserve and maintain this unique and delicious banana.
Each plant is grown from tissue cultures to be a disease free exact replica of the mother plant. The flavor is tart and sweet with peach overtones. Can be boiled fried or eaten fresh, a very versatile species. Grows in zones 8-10 Mature plant height is 12' if watered and fertilized regularly. Plants shipped are 12" now.
