'Southern Home' is a bunch and muscadine cross form the University of Florida. 'Southern Home' is considered the best muscadine for the home garden due to its ornate foliage and pleasant flavored fruit. The unique oak-shaped leaves are highly ornamental. Southern Home Grape, Vitis rotundifolia, is such a beautiful plant that you'll want it just for how it looks growing on your trellis or fence! The finely cut green, Grape leaves make this an airy and romantic vine. You will get cluster after cluster of deep purple-black perfectly round Grapes. The Grapes are firm, not mushy, and they have a nice balance between tart and sweet. They are perfect for eating fresh-out-of-hand or for juice. These are a Muscadine hybrid, having been crossed between several types of grapes. They are very hardy and are great Grapes for the Deep South and coastal areas because they don't require a high amount of chill time to set their fruit or achieve their sweet/sour balance. (They were bred out of the University of Florida so you know they'll handle hot, sultry summers!) Southern Home Grape is self-pollinating, too, so you don't have to plant other types of Grapes with it to get a good crop every year. If you've never tried growing Grapes before, here is a good place to start. Grown from Diseased free Tisue cultures of a superior mother plant. Zone 7- 11, Height 8 - 10 feet, Full sun.
